Biography
Born in Milan in 1991, he began studying the flute with Luca Bossi. He graduated in 2010 from the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Milan. He then studied with Alfred Rutz, Verena Bosshart, and Felix Renggli at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland and the Bern University of the Arts, earning a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy, a Master of Arts in Musical Performance, and a Master of Advanced Studies, all with the distinction Summa cum laude.
His encounter with Rocco Abate was pivotal to his artistic development, and he became Abate’s assistant in the Musica a Cima Ventosa specialization courses. He studied chamber music with Carlo Levi Minzi and piano with Paola Di Simone.
He has attended masterclasses with flautists János Bàlint, Philippe Racine, James Galway, Jean-Claude Gérard, Peter-Lukas Graf, Ramson Wilson, Emmanuel Pahud, and Silvia Careddu.
Tommaso Maggiolini has performed as a soloist and with chamber ensembles at national and international festivals, including the Manhattan to the Mountains Chamber Workshop (USA); the Sechste Schweizerische Saxofontage in Lucerne; Ticino Musica, Ceresio Estate (Switzerland); and Assaggi di Corte (Italy).
He regularly performs with pianist Nicolas Mottini, mezzo-soprano Valentina Londino, and harpist Elisa Netzer, with whom he has appeared in duo and trio performances in Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany, and the USA.
As principal flutist, he has collaborated with various orchestras and ensembles under the direction of Bohdan Shved, Franco Trinca, Franco Cesarini, José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana, and Michael Sanderling. He has had the opportunity to perform in various theatres and venues: Kultur Kasino Bern, Menuhin Forum Bern, Grosser Konzert Saal (Bern), Municipal Theatre of Biel, New Museum of Biel, Sala Puccini (Milan), Auditorium San Dionigi (Vigevano).
In 2017, he began studying Baroque flute with Giannantonio Ippolito.
He is the artistic director of the chamber music journal Verbano Musica estate and the artistic director of the Ruggero Leoncavallo Foundation.
Since 2016, he has taught flute at the ANBIMA Lombardia Flute Workshop. He teaches flute in the canton of Ticino.
He plays a 14k gold Nagahara flute and a Sankyo grenadillo flute.
