Peter-Lukas Graf remembers Conrad Klemm
Matthias Ziegler meets Peter-Lukas Graf in July 2025
In Peter-Lukas Graf’s studio, Swiss musical history comes to life. Matthias Ziegler conducts this interview, accompanied by Serena Klemm, wife of the legendary Conrad Klemm. The interview takes us into the early life of Conrad Klemm and Peter-Lukas Graf, from their early years under the tutelage of André Jaunet to the excitement of the Paris Conservatoire, where they studied with Marcel Moyse and later with Roger Cortet.
Between anecdotes, memorable encounters, and Klemm’s unique charm, the story reveals not only the man and the musician, but also the atmosphere of a time when the flute, still little recognized as a solo instrument, was being shaped under the demanding eye of the masters. Peter-Lukas Graf also evokes the significant influence that Conrad Klemm had on the flute in Italy, highlighting its international influence.
From the Parc Monceau to the classrooms of Paris, an entire chapter of European musical history is revealed, recounted by those who shared the daily life and inspiration of great masters.
It is with profound sadness that the Swiss Flute Society learned of the passing of Peter-Lukas Graf, Honorary President of our Society.
“Peluk”, as he was known to his friends, shaped generations of flutists in Switzerland and far beyond our borders. His immense musical stature, combined with a deep humanity marked by reserve, high standards, and respect, will remain a lasting source of inspiration.
The Swiss Flute Society is committed to keeping his memory and legacy alive.
We extend our most sincere thoughts and heartfelt sympathy to his family and loved ones.
