Biography

Catherine Balmer-Magnin has always been drawn to the flute, which she began studying at the Geneva Conservatory of Music and Dance (CPMDT) with Brigitte Buxtorf, where she earned a certificate with highest honors.

She continued her studies at the Lausanne Conservatory, where she obtained a teaching diploma and then a first prize for virtuosity in the class of Pierre Wavre.
She has had the opportunity to refine her skills through numerous workshops, notably with Trevor Wye.

A passionate chamber musician, she performs in various ensembles, including currently the Maurabia Wind Quintet and the flute and shakuhachi duo Satsuzen.

She is a member of the professional flute ensemble Post Tenebra Flûtes. She also plays in the Geneva State Wind Orchestra (ohge.ch).

Deeply interested in passing on music to younger generations, she has been teaching in various music schools since 1988 and is one of the professional flautists in the educational flute orchestra “Les Vents Blancs”.
