Swiss flautist Sarah Rumer, born in 1978, has held the position of principal flute with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande since 2004. Previously, she held the same position with the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg and the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra, and was a member of the Academy for the Zurich Opera Orchestra. Her career has been enriched by her experience as a supplementary musician with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a guest principal flute with various orchestras, including the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the HR Symphony Orchestra, the Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra Berlin (RSO), and several contemporary music ensembles. <\/p>\n
Originally from Zurich, she studied flute with Felix Dorigo and G\u00fcnter Rumpel and voice with Verena Piller and Rudof Hartmann at the Zurich University of the Arts, before moving to Vienna, where she furthered her studies with Dieter Flury, principal flute of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. During these years, encounters with Michael Kofler, Wolfgang Schulz, Peter-Lukas Graf, and Aur\u00e8le Nicolet enriched her musical training. <\/p>\n
A prizewinner in prestigious international competitions, including the Carl Nielsen Competition in Odense, the Markneukirchen Instrumental Competition, and the Kobe Competition, she has developed a career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing at the Verbier and Lucerne festivals as well as in Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, China, Japan, and Korea. His recordings appear on JPC, Solo Musica and Prospero Classics. <\/p>\n
Since 2011, Sarah Rumer has taught at the Lucerne University of Music and given masterclasses in Europe and Asia, notably every summer since 2012 as part of the Meisterkurse Rheinau program.<\/p>\n
