Biography

Sibel Pensel, the ambassador of the French flute throughout the world, was recently decorated by the Society for the Encouragement of Progress (which recognizes Nobel laureates, researchers, and artists) on October 20, 2016, at the École Militaire in Paris.

An international soloist and renowned teacher, Sibel Pensel dedicates her life to promoting the French school of flute playing worldwide, giving masterclasses and concerts in numerous countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Ecuador, and Russia, as well as in Europe, and teaching at several universities in the United States.

She is a regular member of the juries of major international flute competitions, such as the International Nicolet Flute Competition in China and the International Biwako Flute Competition in Japan.

She has recorded numerous CDs under the Chant de Linos label, including concertos by J. A. De Zeegant, A. Honegger, and A. Kunc with the Hulencourt Soloists Chamber Orchestra.

A professor at the Nice National Conservatory and in the Bachelor’s program at the University of Nice, Sibel Pensel teaches young talents of all nationalities.

Impressed by Sibel Pensel’s profound sensitivity, her exceptionally pure tone, and remarkable virtuosity, many composers have written works in her honor.

President of the very active association “A Travers la Flûte” (Through the Flute), she organizes festivals, masterclasses, competitions, conferences, and the renowned Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition, one of the most prestigious in the world.

Sibel Pensel was awarded First Prize unanimously and the Certificate of Aptitude from the Lyon National Conservatory of Music.
